I'm still in shock that my oldest daughter is staring kindergarten this year, it feels like I just brought her home from the hospital! But since I am in full on back-to-school mode, I am having a back to school special.

Calling all Central Ohio 2012 Seniors!

Messmer Photography is giving away a custom senior session!

The winning senior will receive: a pre-consultation (either via phone or in person) so we can go over the details and plan your perfect session, a 1-2 hour session at the location of their choice, multiple clothing changes and a CD with the professionally edited images (35 - 45), including reproduction rights.

Although there will only be one grand prize winner, every senior who enters will win something (contest entry prize will be announced soon).

To enter, you must send an email to messmerphotography@gmail.com and include:

Your name
Your phone number
Your school
Tell me about you (how would you friends and family describe you, any hobbies and activities, etc...)
What are you looking forward to the most about being a senior?
What are your plans after high school?
A photo (optional, but recommended)

Determining the winner:

After the contest entry window closes, I will post on my blog a short summary (from your email bio), along with the photo of all of the contestants.
Then it's time to spread the word and direct your friends, family, neighbors, etc.. here to my blog to cast their vote. Each person will be able to submit one vote.
The senior with the most votes at the end of the contest will win the grand prize.
The voting window will remain open for 7 days once posted.

The rules:

Contestants must be part of the Class of 2012 and go to school within the Central Ohio area. A parent/guardian must grant permission to participate in the contest, as well as, agree to the model release. To be entered, your entry must be received no later than 8pm on July 8th 2011. Lindsay and I met up last week for her Senior Photo Session. Thankfully, mother nature played nice and we didn't have to dodge any rain drops for her evening session. We had a great time over at Franklin Park Conservatory and even managed to capture a few images of her boyfriend as well.

For Her: Columbus, OH Boudoir Photographer

It all started with a crazy idea that I wanted to shoot a boudoir session. Thankfully my sister was a willing subject and was just as excited about the idea as I was. This session has been in the works for a few months and a couple of weeks ago, everything finally fell into place and we were able to pull it off. When the time is right, I plan to share a few more images from her session, but for now here is one of my favorites.

I loved this experience and want to shoot more boudoir sessions. I am on the look out for a couple more willing participants to help me build this part of my portfolio. If it sounds like something you would be interested in, I would love to hear from you.

I received an awesome text message from my sister yesterday, which reaffirmed for me why I love what I do. She told me that she loves all the images and thanked me making her feel beautiful. Mission accomplished!

I Heart Faces Friday Fix it

It's been awhile since I have participated in the I Heart Faces Friday Fix it, but I couldn't resist when I saw the beautiful photo for this week's fix it. I really enjoyed playing with this one!

Class of 2012 Senior Ambassador Program

Our Senior Ambassador Program is back again this year! If you will be graduating with the Class of 2012 from a Central Ohio area school, than this opportunity is for you!

Our voluntary program provides a way for high school seniors to receive a free senior session along with earning print credit and free products through our awesome referral system.

Senior Ambassador Responsibilities:

A key part of a Senior Ambassador's promotional work relies on the ability to reach out and spread the word about Messmer Photography with your friendly and natural enthusiasm. As a ambassador, you aren't asked to sell anything, you only need to share your photographs and information about your photography experience with Messmer Photography.

Senior Ambassador Benefits:

Each ambassador will receive a free on-location portrait session (unlimited outfit changes).
I will post a web gallery of your images on my Facebook Business Page (www.facebook.com/messmerphotography) and tag you (you must become a fan of my page), this way you can easily and quickly share the images with friends and family. I also recommend that your mom and/or dad become a fan of my page, so I can also tag them in the photos.
25 ambassador referral cards to pass out to friends and peers; each with your name & portrait, as well as, information about our services & a 10% discount to the person presenting your referral card.
Receive a $25 print credit with each referral.
Your 5th referral earns you 3 free mini-albums (identical albums).
7 or more referrals gets you a CD with your high resolution images and reproduction rights.

Terms and conditions. All photo sessions must be completed prior to the start of the student's senior year. Parents or legal guardians of the Senior Ambassador must sign a model release, allowing us to use your images for advertising purposes. Casting Call - Columbus, OH Couples Photographer

Following up to my recent Goals post, I am excited to share, that I am on the hunt for a few fun couples who are willing to bring their love and high energy for an engagement type photo session.

What I’m looking for:
~ Couples in love: Open to couples who are in a serious dating relationship, couples who are engaged to be married and/or couples who are happily married (Must be at least 18yrs old).
~ The couple should be comfortable with each other and being in front of the camera. And did I mention that they should like to have fun!
~ Signed Model Release for web, print and display is required.
~ Travel to Central Ohio for session at a location of my choice.
~ Must be available for session in the next few weeks.

What you will get:
~ One Free session
~ The Digital Files to your 5 favorite images, with reproduction rights.
~ Option to purchase prints or more digital files at a discounted price (purchase not required).

A girl needs to have some goals, right?!

Messmer Photography had a wonderful 2010 and I feel so blessed to have meet so many new clients and reconnect with previous clients. I am in awe that I get to do what I do - what makes my heart and soul happy! I am loving every second of this journey and am excited for all that will be in 2011.

Having a strong type A personality, am very much a goal oriented person and am big on making lists. I have just never publicly published them before. Truthfully, I am more than a little nervous about this, but am hopefully that by doing so, I will hold myself more accountable. I not only want to record my goals here, but as the year progresses, I want to update this post with my progress.

I have some BIG goals for 2011, some of which include:

Business Related
Seniors - If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you are already well aware of how much I LOVE senior sessions. My goal for 2011 is to meet at least 30 new seniors and photograph their senior sessions.

Engagements and Weddings - I am a sucker for a good love story and couples in love! This is the area of my business I want to see the biggest growth. My goal is to work towards staying very busy with shooting engagement sessions. I also have a goal to shoot 6 - 10 weddings as either the primary photographer or a second shooter.

Website - As my engagement and wedding portfolio expands, I would like to launch a website and branding specific to clients looking for engagement and wedding photography.

Equipment - Oh how I dream about going full frame! I hope to add a D700 to my camera bag and move my D90 to backup status. I also want to add a few more lenses to my glass collection. I have embraced the fact that I am a prime girl and have my eye on adding both a 35mm and 85mm to my bag. Although I also want to replace my stolen 70-200 f/2.8 - I loved that lens...it creates some dreamy backgrounds.

Workshops/Networking - This is something I don't do enough of and need to make a higher priority. Be it, a photo walk with other photographers, networking online or attending a photography workshop, I am going to keep my eye out for these opportunities and take part in them. My ultimate goal (though not quite sure it will happen in 2011, but you never know) is to attend a workshop given by the one and only, Jasmine Star.

Personal
Exercise - My husband and I have made a commitment to work out together and start our P90x program (again). I want 2011 to be the year I get serious about my improving my health. I'm getting a little tired of carrying around the post baby weight - mind you, my youngest is 2 1/2 - it's time for those extra 15-20 lbs to hit the road.

Date night - Somewhere between working FT, caring for my family and running a successful business, I want to enjoy a monthly date night with my husband.

Scrapbooking time / photographing my family - It seems that I have forgotten where my love of photography began, which was photographing my family. I am going to make a big effort to get the camera out for those "gotta capture" moments, as well as, just every day "this is our life" moments. I've also recommitted to documenting our year with my weekly scrapbook layouts, which will be put into an album (not just tucked away on my computer). Isabella: Columbus, OH Child Photographer

My last session of 2010 was with this little beauty, Isabella. If you have followed my blog, then you will recognize her. I've had the pleasure of photographing this little girl throughout her first year. We met up at Franklin Park Conservatory for her one year session...she was all smiles, which made my job very easy.

Zoe's first Birthday - Columbus, OH Children's Photographer

I'm a little behind on posting session recaps here on the blog. This time of year always adds another layer of excitement...throw the busy fall shooting season in with the holidays and it's bound to be a crazy time of year, but admittedly it's also rather fun!

Last month, I had a bitter sweet session with little Zoe. It was so exciting to have Zoe's session on her actual first birthday, but I can't believe she has now graduated from my "Baby's First Year" plan. It has been so fun to document her first year! And a special thanks to little Zoe, who did so well during her session even though she wasn't feeling very well.

Nicole - Columbus, Oh Children's Photographer

Last weekend, I met up with Nicole for her session. It's been a little over a year since our last session together - it's so much fun to watch my clients grow up. I am not ashamed to admit that I am not above using a little bribery with my younger clients (as needed). I am so glad I had some cookies on hand to help encourage Nicole to let me lead her around Jeffrey Mansion. I think cookies just might become a staple to my kit!

For Paul and Macy - Columbus, OH Children's Photographer

It is so fun to watch my clients grow up. Last year, I had a family session with this group and I was so excited with Missy reached out to me for another session with Paul and Macy. We had a beautiful fall morning for our session and the leaves were prefect for playing and jumping in. We met up at one of my favorite spots in downtown Canal Winchester, complete with some train tracks and a couple of trains.

It was my pleasure to meet up with Erica and her Mom Kim last weekend for a session at the Park of Roses. We were blessed with a beautiful fall morning for her session - I was so excited that the roses were still in bloom. You may remember Erica, from the session I had with her and her family last fall. It has been a joy to watch this beautiful young lady grow up. Erica, has entered her freshman year and to document this special time; we took some portraits in her school and soccer uniforms. This young lady is one heck of a soccer player (thanks for not hitting me with the ball during your action shots!).

An apology and some thoughts about the future of Messmer Photography

I feel like I owe my recent clients an apology and wanted to do so publicly. In the last few weeks, I've been slacking in prompt follow up and follow through and I'm truly sorry. I do appreciate your business and your trust and am working hard on finishing client galleries and orders, so everyone is all taken care of.

In addition to running Messmer Photography, I also work as a Human Resources Information Systems Manager. I am so lucky to work for a great company and to enjoy my work. I love photography, but my HR career is what supports my family. After a lot of soul searching, I've made the decision to drastically limit the number sessions I take on for the remainder of 2010. At this time, I feel like I need to come back to center and not extend myself like I have been. And although, I've enjoyed working with each and every one of my clients - I'm just running out of steam to keep up the pace of working full-time, carrying for my two girls and our home, and running my business in the manner that my clients deserve.

I don't yet know if Messmer Photography will be accepting any clients in 2011. I am currently working on my application for a Masters in Human Resources and Employee Relations program and plan on starting that program in January. It has been a long time goal of mine to return to school and get my Master's degree and after a lot of soul searching and discussion with my family, I believe the time is now.

Again, thank you to all the Messmer Photography clients. I have enjoyed being a part of your lives, thank you for allowing me the honor of capturing your memories.

Note: those clients that already have sessions scheduled with Messmer Photography in the upcoming months, please know I am committed to making your session a successful one and am looking forward to working with each and every one of you.

I can't exactly recall why I stopped using this lens, but am so thankful to have gotten reacquainted with my 50mm once again. I am certain it won't be coming off of my camera anytime soon. I took some time to play with this lens before my senior session earlier this week and captured these images. I love the creamy backgrounds this lens produces. All of these were shot at f/1.8.

Last weekend, I had a fun urban session around the arena district with my niece, Sienna. I've had multiple sessions with her over these last couple of years and it's so fun to see her grow up in front of my lens. In fact, she was one of my very first practice sessions - so I guess it's safe to say we are "growing up" together. As I edited her session, I took time to think about how far I've come in both my photography and post processing skills. And while, I'm certain I will only continue to grow (as will she), I couldn't be happier with the journey I've taken.

Messmer Photography is looking fresh faces to help fill up my engaged couples portfolio (So I have to admit, that part of my portfolio is a little on the thin side) and as a result, I am offering a free engagement session to the first 5 couples who book their session with me.

Each couple will receive:

A free on-location photo session (up to 2 hrs of shooting time at location of your choice, in the Central Ohio area).
Up to 30 professionally edited images.
Blog post featuring your session and online gallery of images; to share with friends and family.
(1) 8x10 print and set of (8) wallets free, just for helping me out.
10% off your order (Order is not required).

So, what's involved?!

I am looking for fun, out-going couples. Each couple must be engaged to be married and should be prepared to have a good time. Couples should also be comfortable with PDAs (public displays of affection...LOL!).
Each couple must sign a release, so I can feature your images in promotional material (web and/or print).
While there is no requirement to place an order, it is my hope that you will love your images and want to do so. Each couple can pick which pose they would like in the free 8x10 and set of wallets.
Session must be held on or before August 31st to qualify.

We weren't sure if the weather was going to hold out for us, but thankfully we managed to dodge the rain and stay dry for their beautiful outdoor wedding.
